Story Inc
Te Ana, the Ngai Tahu Maori Rock Art Centre, opened in Timaru in 2010.
Ngai Tahu runs tours to view the rock art of their ancestors at various sites within the Waitaki valley, near Timaru. They are the oldest examples of rock paintings in New Zealand.
The Trust wanted to complement the tours by opening a centre where the public could discover the stories of Maori rock art and learn more about the culture of Ngai Tahu. We constructed the exhibition from Story Inc’s designs to explain the importance of the rock art and its stories to New Zealand.
